Not Truly Alone

I recently went on my first solo trip to the beautiful county that is Hong Kong. I’ve always wanted to experience solo travelling but I had my worries going on this trip solo.

‘I was scared of being alone and feeling lonely’.

But here are just a few bible verses that helped me out:

‘Do not be terrified… for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.’

— Joshua 1:9

‘The Lord is with me; i will not be afraid… The Lord is with me; he is my helper.’

— Psalm 118:6-7

‘Do not be afraid or terrified… for the Lord your God goes with you.’

— Deuteronomy 31:6

‘So do not fear, for I am with you… I will strengthen you and help you.’

— Isaiah 41:10

All these verses pointed me to the same thing regarding my worries about being ‘scared of being alone and feeling lonely’, which was simply ‘don’t be’. Don’t be scared, because like what it says in Joshua, Psalm, Deuteronomy and Isaiah: THE LORD IS WITH ME. If He’s with me then I’m not truly alone.

So I booked that flight, flew to the other side of the world, travelled Hong Kong solo, and I can honestly say it was the best experience ever, and I came back feeling so blessed. Blessed that I was safe during my travels. Blessed that I got to see beautiful places. Blessed that I got to meet beautiful people. Blessed that God was with me.

I have to admit though, I did feel somewhat ‘lonely’ eating out on my own. It was something I’d never experienced. The small interactions that I made with people because I was ‘alone’, however, like exchanging smiles and making simple conversations, made the experience worth it.

Thank you Lord.

‘And surely I will be with you always, to the very end of the age’ — Matthew 28:20
